A Brief Sketch of Our History

The humble beginning of the Second National Ketoctan Primitive Baptist Association (2nd NKPBA) was seven years after the abolition of physical slavery in the United States of America. The 2nd NKPBA was launched by men who had the courage, foresight, determination and impelling power of God to move the people forward in their religious fellowships.

The call for action was very urgent for many persons had been deprived of their very basic social needs, for full human loving and then had to go forth without those assets. God, in His infinite love, wisdom and everlasting compassion then sent men to provide the leadership for an organization of the churches.

Having been associated with the National Ketoctan Primitive Baptist Association, an organization of the white brethren, for a number of years, the Elder Jerry Jones was instrumental in calling a Council to form an independent Body. The following five ministers met in Council to form the Association.

Jerry Jones – Second White Oaks, Washington, DC; Mt. Olive, Leesburg, VA
Coredel Roberson – Mt. Moriah, Chambersburg, PA; Mt. Zion, Carlisle, PA
Jack Wallace – First Zion, Middletown, PA
Cornelius Gaddis – Mt. Morris, Hume, VA
Mark Russell – Poplar Forks, Fauquier County, VA

The first Council was held at the Mt. Morris Primitive Baptist Church, Hume, Virginia, which is known as the Mother Church of 2nd National. In August 1872, the 2nd NKBPA was organized. Again, some seven years later the founding brethren thought it both wise and desirable to have a nation charter. This charter was issued bearing the date and time of January 5, 1880 at 1:20pm. The Association met full requirements to be a duly organized independent Body to fellowship with those churches, which had united, and for those that would join in the years to come.
